Issue
- The dishwasher is making unusual noises
- Why is my dishwasher so noisy?
Applies to
- Freestanding Dishwashers
- Built-in Dishwasher
Resolution
1. Humming noise just after starting:
There is no cause for concern, the dishwasher always starts a washing cycle with a pumping program, which produces this noise.
2. Loud noise or knocking:
There is no cause for concern, the noise is produced by the detergent dispenser opening.
3. Beeping sound during pumping:
Add a drop of detergent (not too much!) to the detergent dispenser to lubricate the pumping mechanism.
4. Squealing noise
This is often heard in brand-new dishwashers and it occurs during the first few times that you run it. Nothing to worry about here.
5. Grinding noise
The motor in a dishwasher may make grinding noises when it goes through specific cycles. This is normal
6. Whistling or clunking noise:
If your dishwasher is overloaded with dishes, it will have to work harder to clean them, and dishes are more likely to bang against each other. This can cause the dishwasher to run louder than normal. To fix this issue, simply don’t overload your dishwasher, put in as many dishes as we recommend for your particular model.
It could also be that the spray arms are hitting items within the dishwasher such as long spoons or saucepan handles. Check the positioning of items within the dishwasher.
To check that this is indeed the source of the problem, we recommend first removing the lower basket and then testing the operation of the appliance again. If the problem persists, remove the upper basket next. If the problem still occurs after that, you will need to consider replacing your spray arms.
If your dishwasher is making noise when the appliance is turned off, we recommend a visit from a service engineer.
