Cause and Solution

Burnt-in dirt is difficult to remove

Sugary substances burn into the enamel.

  • Over-boiled sugar and sugary foods can burn into the enamel.
  • Clean the enameled pasted plate as follows:
  1. Remove heavily burnt-in leftover food from the surface of the plate using a hot plate scraper with blades.
  2. Clean the plate with liquid scouring cream and a rough sponge.
  3. Scrub the surface thoroughly.
  4. Use clean water to wipe the plate down.
  5. Set the hot plate to the highest setting to burn away any remaining substances / food leftovers.

Tip: Burn only one cooking zone at a time.

Bright / blank surface of the hot plate

The plates get dirty during use.

  • The surface of the plates becomes lighter over time, as a result of cookware being put on and taken off. The plates can be returned to their original color.
  • Apply hob cleaner, which can be found in most supermarkets. Before applying hob cleaner, the plates must be thoroughly cleaned and dry.

Rust

Food often boils over.

If the plates often become damp due to over-boiling, and are not immediately cleaned up afterwards, the remaining moisture will eventually contribute to plate corrosion.

To avoid over-boiling, use smaller amounts of water to boil.

Cook potatoes and other vegetables in 1–3 ml of water. The amount of water depends on the size of the cooking zone.

  • Use 1 ml of water when cooking on the small zone (14 cm in diameter).
  • Use 2 ml of water when cooking on the medium zone (18 cm in diameter).
  • Use 3 ml of water when cooling on the large zone (21 cm in diameter).

Pour water into the vegetables in the saucepan. Put a leak-proof lid on the pan. Switch on the cooking zone to the highest setting. Keep an eye on the saucepan.
When steam starts escaping from the lid, turn it down to the lowest possible setting (often 3 or 4, depending on how many settings are available). Calculate the cooking time from when they are turned down. Once cooking is finished, lift the lid and check whether the vegetables are tender. If necessary, lengthen the time. It is important that the lid stays on for the entire cooking time.

This method saves both energy and water.

The plates are damp.

If the plates are not heated after cleaning, the moisture from cleaning will cause the plate to corrode.

Never put hot plate covers on before the plates are completely dry.

The plates have not been protected against corrosion regularly.

Pasted plates are made from cast iron. The plates may corrode over time if they are not protected against corrosion regularly.

Protect the plates against corrosion as follows:

  1. Ensure that the plates are thoroughly cleaned and dried.
  2. Apply a thin layer of neutral oil on the plates. Make sure the oil is applied over the entire plate.
  3. Switch on the plates to the highest setting for 3 minutes.

The cover

Moisture or cleaning agent residue.

The ceramic glass plate has become damp during heating and/or there is cleaning agent residue on the plates.

After cleaning the ceramic glass plate, first wipe it down using a damp cloth to remove any residual cleaning agent. Then wipe it with a dry cloth. It is important that the plate is dry when it is switched on.

Silvery marks

Aluminum transfer from the saucepans

Possible with both aluminum saucepans and steel pans with sandwich bottoms. The marks / stains appear on top of the glass plate.

To remove the marks / stains perform the following:

  • Apply a few drops of ceramic glass cleaner to the affected area.
  • Use a piece of kitchen roll and rub it hard with a finger over the stain.
  • As the stain gradually disappears or fades, it will transfer to a grey smudge on the kitchen roll.
  • Repeat the treatment as necessary.
Dark areas

Internal wiring area.

The dark areas on your cook top is the internal wiring area of the radiant heater (only applies to cooking zones with radiant heating).

  • The internal wiring area is where heat is transferred to the pot.
  • The dark spot is not a defect in the appliance.
  • The usability of the cook top is not restricted.
  • A remedy is not possible.
